Managing your tax life is easier with the IRS Online Account. It’s a secure, free portal that puts key information at your fingertips—much like online banking, but for your IRS records.

Top Benefits

  • See your balance, payments, and refund status: View what you owe by year, your payment history, any scheduled payments, and track your refund.
  • Access records fast: Get prior-year transcripts and view or download W2s and certain 1099s (for recent years).
  • Go paperless: Receive and view many IRS notices electronically.
  • Pay or plan online: Make same-day payments, schedule future payments, or set up a payment plan.

How to Set Up Your Account

  1. Gather what you need:
    • Photo ID (driver’s license, state ID, or passport)
    • SSN or ITIN
    • A valid email address
    • A smartphone or computer with a camera

1.Go to the official page:
https://www.irs.gov/payments/online-account-for-individuals

2. Click “Sign in to your Online Account,” then choose “Create an account.”

3. Verify your identity: Follow the prompts to create your account through ID.me (or complete a short live video session if needed).

    • Identity verification is a one-time process. Once your account is set up, you’ll simply log in going forward.

4. Enable multifactor authentication, then sign in.

Note: If you file jointly, each spouse must create their own separate Online Account.

Why Do This Now?

During filing season, having an Online Account helps you (and us) resolve questions faster—especially for payments, notices, missing W2s/1099s, and transcript requests.

We strongly recommend that everyone set up an account.

We look forward to working with you in the upcoming months!
